With the Memorial Day weekend coming up fast, it’s time to get your last licks in before Snook season closes. Along the surf, catches of Snook are on the rise, with more fish leaving the Indian River for the cooler waters of the inlets and beaches. Weed has been an issue, but those working the areas without much weed are being rewarded. Soft plastic shad tail jigs are doing the most damage, with spoons also producing. Jack Crevalle and Ladyfish are also around to provide some fun. Pompano activity has been minimal, but a few are being caught. Inshore, many of the larger Snook have headed to the inlets, but there are still decent numbers of slot sized and smaller fish to keep you busy. There’s also been a few Redfish caught, mostly on live bait. Fort Pierce Inlet has been producing Snook regularly, with jigs working, but live bait being the best bet. Offshore, Dolphin and Sailfish activity has been good from 100′ to 150′, mostly on live bait. Good luck out there, and be safe on the weekend.
