Good morning,
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. The Pelican Tournament ended up half way decent with several boats catching good numbers. Mike Brady ran the Cow Poke to first place catching 12 fish their last day. The fishing wasn’t red hot this year but some still managed to do well. The best story of the weekend came from Ben Horton. Ben told me a pretty exciting yet sad story on my way to work. They were swordfishing this weekend off of Ft. Pierce and hooked a good fish at 1 a.m. Long story short at 9:30 a.m. the fish was lost boat-side. Ben’s brother Alex stayed on the rod the entire 81/2 hours. About 4 hours into the battle, the TLD50 snapped at the base and mayhem set in. They were able to splice the line to another rod after hand-lining the fish for a while. Unfortunately the rod slid down the line and stayed on for the remainder of the fight. At 9:30 a.m. the fish was 20 feet below the boat for almost an hour and wouldn’t budge. The mainline finally gave way due to the broken rod chaffing the entire time. I feel your pain guys, but a great story none the less. If that doesn’t make you want to head East tonight I don’t know what will!
Have a great week!
