Good morning, looking back to last week the dolphin fishing was red hot at the beginning of the week, but by yesterday you could hardly buy a dolphin bite. A few dolphin were caught on live bait under the Sargasso grass. Most of those trolling found scattered Sargasso grass from 100′ to 500′ making it a chore to keep the baits clear. The bottom fishing improved over the week end. Kadri Benton reported catching 4 amberjack and 2 grouper on live bait yesterday over the Mulliphen wreck. Other boats also reported some good bottom catches over the area’s reefs and wrecks.
Inshore, there is still an abundance of snook around in the lagoon and in the inlet.Trout fishing remains strong on the flats, live bait have been producing good results on both species. Summer time is the time when you should start fishing for trout with live pig fish, no self respecting trout can turn one down. Early morning has been a good time to fish for gator trout, using a top water lure will get good results. Some of our kayaking friends have been sneaking up on trout and snook in skinny water. They are using DOA shrimp in the glow color to target those species.
Have a great day, Donald.
