Good Tuesday Morning, Ive returned from the everglades once again. It was a fun trip, but fishing was slow. I took a couple of long time customers and old friends of the tackle shop. It was their first time to the Everglades national park and they loved every minute we were there. The first day we fished, Sunday, was the better of the two days fishing wise. We caught a few trout, some small snapper, ladyfish, and a nice black drum. We found the black drum tailing and pushing across a shallow bar in the middle of a large bay. It took quite an effort to hook one. I was told they are starting their spawn, and they don’t feed during that time period. Despite that fact we caught one about fifteen pounds on a small black spoon. We had encounters with snook, redfish and tarpon but I think the moon had them feeding at night and they seemed to have lockjaw in the day time. The second day was even worse fishing, but the weather was great and they really enjoyed just seeing to beauty of the park. They fishing was just like the day before, but worse. We saw fish in multiple spots we just couldn’t get them to bite.
I was told the fishing was good here yesterday Scott had a charter in the river. He was successful catching snook on live bait and artificial lures. The big snook are pushing up on the flats right now and will start staging in the pot holes on the flats waiting on bait to ambush.
Have a great week,
Geoff
