Good morning,
Yesterdays nice weather allowed some boats to get out and fish yesterday. There was a decent sailfish bite from 160-200 feet of water to the North and South of the inlet. I didn’t hear of any crazy numbers but several boats caught 6-8 sails and some nice dolphin. There were some blackfins caught on the edge of the reef, and some nice wahoos have been caught the last week or so.
Inshore, trout and redfish remain the main quarry. We have been catching double digit redfish daily along with some nice trout. The bite has been very slow in the mornings until the water temp reaches it’s peak. Gulp baits fished very slow, and flies are working best. The trout are laid up in shallow water and are very spooky. Long casts are a necessity. I have seen quite a few dead fish over the last week, including several big snook, redfish, ladyfish, etc. The snook population in the river is extremely depleted due to lasts years freeze and the cold water now is not helping. Take good care of the fish you release, they are going to need some help for a while.
Hope everyone has a great day, enjoy the nice weather!
