Good morning,
The sailfishing continues to be great from here all the way to Palm Beach. The Floridian fished yesterday and had around 18-19 sailfish bites and we heard similar reports down the line towards Jupiter. It seems that a large body of fish are hanging around due to all the bait. I have never seen so many flying fish as there have been the last few weeks. The Pelican Tournament ended this weekend with a record breaking 405 sailfish releases out of 29 boats. The daily record was broken, the total fish record was broken and the average boat caught 14 fish compared to the previous record of 7 per boat. Pretty incredible fishing. Congratulations to K.P. and the crew of the Lo Que Sea with the winning 38 fish, The Floridian in second with 28 fish and the Hotty Toddy in third with 25 fish.
Inshore, mother nature has shown some sad results from the weeks frigid temperatures. Unfortunately we have had a pretty severe fish kill. We have seen and heard of everything from trout, snook, tarpon, and even bonefish dead. The moon fish, shiners, goats, and perch type fish seem to have been hit the worst by the cold. It looks like we should start warming up soon so hopefully the rest of the inshore fish will survive. Fish deep water this week and you can catch some nice fish. Try free-lining live shrimp on light fluorocarbon leaders with small circle hooks for best results. This is always a fool proof method when the water gets extremely cold.
Have a great day!
