Good Morning,
Tarpon! Thats all I can think of this morning. I fished with my friends Dale and Alex yesterday afternoon on the beach south of the inlet. We ran around looking for bait for a while, but found a huge school of small black mullet down off Jensen in the surf. As we appoched the school of bait i watched a tarpon coming to the surface to roll and knew it was going to be a great afternoon. Once we had bait the rest is history. We had over 10 heart pounding baits were the tarpon would not the mullet out of the water three or four times before they finally got hooked! It was awesome. My friend Dale caught 2 tarpon one in the 40# range and one about 70#. I caught a small fish about 30# that thought he was 100#. Alex is our professional video guy, and got some great footage on film! Check out the link to youtube at the bottom of the report!
While we were finishing our day up tarpon fish at sunset Kadri was throwing a jig in the river after work. He caught all sorts of snook of the flats. His biggest fish wasn’t quite 28" but passed the 27 7/8" mark! Sorry Kad it just didn’t measure. He said the DOA CAL jerk shad in copper crush and the Rip Tide opening night were the top producers. He also said he saw quite a few small tarpon on the flats rolling and chasing mullet.
Good luck and check out this link!
Geoff
